Dataportal & Exceptions

When any type of exception is thrown from a Dataportal_Fetch method and the dataportal is running remotely i get a System.ArgumentNullException with the following message property:
Value cannot be null.
Parameter name: type
This suggests that something is missing from the Dataportal config file, however having compared it against the sample one supplied with the CSLA download it does not appear to be the case.
I have done some further testing and it would appear that it is failing on the Dataportal exception, either on creating it or returning it.
Has anyone encountered this before?
