Rocky,

You mentioned in your posting about type level rules in 2.1 that you were afraid of answering questions about the difference over and over...

Could you make a sticky thead (one that stays at the top), and this would contain a FAQ for such questions.

It might be a good idea to keep it right on the General forum, hopefully people will read it first since its pretty close to the New Post button.

Can you explain this a bit further?

I know that CS 2.0 has some concept called "articles", which might be what you are talking about? I've never looked at what they are or how they work.

More importantly, would this thread be active? I could see where it would overwhelm normal threads and would rapidly become useless as it would span the discussions of dozens and dozens of newbie questions, answers, clarifications, etc. It sounds like a nightmare to me - but I'm probably misunderstanding the specifics of what you are proposing.

I'm not sure what it'd be called in CS, but I know other forum board applications have thread topics which always stay at the top, no matter how you sort the topics.

Here's such a forum:

If by active you mean that people can post to that thread; I would say no.  There's only the one post, which I guess you (or a small group of people you delegate to) could edit.

I would also like to see “sticky” threads.  Most other forums that I have visited have “sticky” threads that always remain on top.  The thread topics include “FAQ” and “For Beginners” etc.  These threads would remain closed.  “Sticky” threads make it easier for users to get answers to common questions.  This would be a huge benefit to this forum.  Since you answer many of the most common questions on your www.lhotka.net/Articles  site, you could provide links to those pages in the FAQ sticky.
